I've gone Hybrid all along and it has worked well for me. I'm more heavily invested in Reaver for DW but have spec'd enough in Berserker to help with CC. I think DW is just as viable as 2H early on, but you definitely want to take advantage of the CC in the Berserker tree early, then focus on beefing up your DW abilities. I mostly DW when I fight except for when I need CC. If the mobs have all shields overhead and my Jagged Cut and Wreck Armor combos are on a cooldown I'll also switch to 2H for Butcher since it does nice damage and ends in a UR attack.

I'm 58 and I usually solo and going Hybrid has been awesome. There's a lot of good synergy between the DW and 2H combos and I think weapon swapping as needed makes things more interesting and certainly more fun.
